It adds no discernable flavour and serves to highlight other flavours in the cocktail without changing them. Vodka is the blank canvas of spirits in the sense that it wont change the flavour of your cocktail mix and will only boost flavours. I don't know where you're getting the idea that it makes things more bland. I mean I guess it does change the flavour of juice (which is essentially the non-alcoholic part of the cocktail) but if you want pure juice then just drink juice!

I think you mean the potato of alcohols. Also especially considering it's usually made from potato.

Obviously not a vodka aficionado. You can blindfold me and put six chilled shot glasses of six different vodkas before me and I'd be right more often than wrong. At least when I used to drink.
