Most people who hated social media initially were right

This Is as true as it is popular

Really? I've had multiple conversation w ppl about this and none of them agree. Ig I should expand my scope oof

Perhaps I have only noticed that trend as I was of the generation to first use social media, and many contemporary opinions over the last two decades have said how destructive it can be Whereas younger generations have grown up with it so don't see it as an issue

Also missing a ton of use cases of social media.

I've been saying this for years. I think that boomers are extremely out of touch on a lot of things, but they were (and still are) 100% correct about social media.

Thats basically exactly what im saying. Thats a better way to put it tbh

Indeed, Facebook allowed some degree of social networking. It was when FB acquired Instagram and turned into basically a platform for the average person to simulate being a celebrity which over time transitioned into basically a soft porn app that things went downhill. IG then acted as a gateway for cancer like Tinder, TikTok and OnlyFans to become viable.

Thank you. So, now avoid AI.

If we were going to keep the world tidy, the average person shouldn't be able to purchase gasoline or unbridled Internet access. But no, here we are where everyone can spew cancer whether through pollution or social media.

Also the average person shouldn't be allowed to have more than one child--and only when licensed to do so. But, as you say, here we are.

Pretty much yeah.

to be blunt, media studies kinda... moved on from this discussion

People who complain about social media while using social media are a special breed.

To refuse to see the fault in your use of life is to refuse the ability to grow. How can you be better if you don't acknowledge your faults first?

It's not really that deep big dawg. It's pretty much as simple as not using the thing you claim to dislike. It just seems comical to me that someone would claim to hate social media so much yet they have a profile on said social media and use said social media. That be like me constantly saying I hate the color blue but all I wear is blue colored clothing.
by Anonymous1 month ago
Maybe I'm the weirdo here but when I claim to not like something I usually stay away from that thing. But hey that's just me.
by Anonymous1 month ago
I never said I dislike it. I just said it's very negative in the ways people said it would be. I don't like the effect it has on people, but if I'm conscious of that then maybe I can avoid the consequences

It just seems comical to me that someone would claim to hate social media so much yet they have a profile on said social media and use said social media It's like a drug. You can be addicted while acknowledging it's crap.

That is no where close to the same thing. There are things in this world that can be a good thing but humans overuse, deform and perverse it.

Social media can be an addiction for some peopleā¦ also people who dislike it
by Anonymous1 month ago
That I can agree with. Social Media can become very addicting.
