+37 People who buy "fun" cars that are inefficient need to be shamed more, amirite?

Your powerless whinging brings a smile to my face as I drive fast down the highway

Do people really still buy into the "electric cars are better for the environment" stuff?

by Lanky-Access 1 month ago

Is there any source you can provide that says otherwise? Every study demonstrates that electric vehicles produce fewer lifetime emissions compared to ICE vehicles.

by Emergency_Potato 1 month ago

Yes because they are

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Maybe, maybe not. But the people who want fun cars generally aren't buying "perfectly good hybrids" right?

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I'd be willing to bet my Hyundai accent that gets 40mpg has way less of an overall environmental impact than your average Tesla Especially while we're still getting most of our electricity from coal. I mean yeah the douchebags driving shiny lifted f-350s bug me too, but there's nothing wrong with average ICE cars

I'd be willing to bet my Hyundai accent that gets 40mpg has way less of an overall environmental impact than your average Tesla Given that EVs are better for the environment than hybrids, which realize MPGs in excess of 40 MPG... you could make that bet, but then you'd lose.

Don't forget how dirty lithium mining is.

by Reymundorussel 1 month ago

Lithium mining accounts for an extremely small contribution to an EV's overall impact. Even after you account for it, EVs are still better for the environment than ICE vehicles.

by cruz03 1 month ago

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out when I have time to read it!

by Reymundorussel 1 month ago

Yeah oil extraction is way better

by Anonymous 1 month ago

EV's have been around fairly widely since 2014 and ubiquitous for the past five years. Super disingenuous.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Not really. The main reason I've not bought one is lack of infrastructure where I live. The closest charger is 30 miles away and I park in the street. I'm 100% certain my next truck will be an EV once they no longer have such low range for towing.

by Reymundorussel 1 month ago

You'd be wrong.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Your ice car is still polluting while idling. Piling on. You'd be wrong.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Where do you think batteries come from? Where do you think the electricity comes from to power them?

by Independent_Motor 1 month ago

Even if you account for battery production and electrical production, EVs are still better for the environment than ICE vehicles. Quit repeating stale talking points.

by cruz03 1 month ago

I get my EV's batteries from your mom's vibrator collection

by Anonymous 1 month ago

"Necessarily" is a really key term that basically blows away all the "not everyone has charging docks" and "economic blah" stuff you're saying

by Anonymous 1 month ago

care to elaborate and break down what you mean? not sure how it blows my points away without you explaining.

by Fabulous_Flan 1 month ago

Well saying stuff like "yeah but some people need one…" is irrelevant to the point that those who DONT need one but choose to buy one are the problem

by Anonymous 1 month ago

ah i see, fair enough, thanks for the elaboration

by Fabulous_Flan 1 month ago

Better for the environment since theirs abundance of them

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Are there? Proof?

Waiting

I do prefer SUVs, but I also have a family to support. Even if I didn't have a family, I'd probably still have my SUV, because when I got it EVs weren't that big in the market. What you're not gonna do, is shame people for their choices. I get this is unpopular opinion, but that doesn't mean you antagonize others.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I'll shame who I want!

by Anonymous 1 month ago

At least you're honest about it.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Yup

by Anonymous 1 month ago

people only live for roughly 80 years. not enough time to be 100% efficient all the time, if someone wants to have a fun car let them.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

problem mindset

by Anonymous 1 month ago

or rather i dont want to waste time being overly professional all the time.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

No risk of you sounding professional, don't worry about that

by Anonymous 1 month ago

you are still not getting it. we are here for a good time, not a long time.

Hard agree with op
