+20 The average person is dead, amirite?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Well, I can't take him like that. It's against regulations

by Fabulous-Gain5988 1 week ago

I'm disappointed this went over most people's heads

by LowFee2401 1 week ago

monty?

by Puzzleheaded-Fox 1 week ago

If he's all dead there's only one thing you can do. Go through his pockets and look for loose change.

by oharacrawford 1 week ago

he clearly said "to blave" which we all know means to bluff

by KindlyAntelope1400 1 week ago

I am dead inside

by Kamronjohnston 1 week ago

Statistically, I am mostly dead.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Exactly. Some people are 0.92 dead before their morning coffee.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I feel more dead than 0.92 so I guess im above average. Thats nice.

by Tricky_Advisor 1 week ago

I'd say this is accurate. I feel like I'm only 0.08 alive tbh.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

That's basically how i feel rn

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I always liked the "The average person has less than 2 arms." statement. While technically true also showcases how you can manipulate math, especially averages and statistics, to give you absurd answers.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Pretty sure while the average person might be around 0.92 dead if we treat dead/alive like a numerical scale, this way of thinking about it isn't accurate. A person is either alive or dead. It's a binary state, not a sliding scale.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Well, yes, that's why the avarage doesn't really mean much in this context.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Ok, I see where you are directing that. Apologies.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Asymptotically dead.

by bartolettijedid 1 week ago

That means it is left skewed

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Rounding up, though? Dead.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Less than 8% of all people ever are alive right now.

by Ok-Meaning 1 week ago

I always see this phrased as "less than" as if it's not a lot, but I think the crazy stat is the other way around. Humans have existed as a species for hundreds of thousands of years, and yet 8% of them are still alive right now!

by Cweissnat 1 week ago

ETA: I did my math wrong and it's actually 6.2% Which when coupled with "less than 8%" still makes a true statement. Congratulations.

by yundteladio 1 week ago

Kinda scary if you think about it, means our species probably doesn't last that much longer from here.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

No, theres just been thousands of years for humans to be born and die.

by Ok_Couple 1 week ago

What? Humans have been here for militias with more of us alive at one time now than ever in history

by No-Highlight 1 week ago

Right and if we exist much longer at our current population, then the probability of us existing right now drastically decreases.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

The growth rate is shrinking. As quality of life increases, growth rate counter intuitively decreases. Thats awfully convenient. Hopefully we can figure out how to make this place a little nicer soon

by Tricky_Advisor 1 week ago

intersting it also goes the other way, the worse conditions are, the more children we have.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

The average person is more than 92% dead then 🤷🏼‍♀️

by Important_Big7147 1 week ago

What you're saying is statistically, only 92% of people die

by Bashirianmiller 1 week ago

Which is actually more than I would have guessed.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Why couldn't I have been part of the majority for once?

by ardithmiller 1 week ago

Less than 100% of all people ever are alive right now.

by MinuteCurrency 1 week ago

The average person also has less than two legs!

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Yes! You might want to know about Myrtle Corbin though. Just in case you don't yet :)

by Important_Big7147 1 week ago

The average person has 0.5 penises and 0.5 vaginas

by Anonymous 1 week ago

it's a lot less, so the gender population gap will play a bigger role than intersexual

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I reckon that a sufficient amount of penises have been lost in accidents and the likes to counteract intersexuality. I'd even wager that penis-loss is more prevalent than intersexuality and thus makes the penis stat < 0.5. However, intersexuality would probably still be statistically significant for the vagina stat, since I imagine losing a vagina is a lot rarer than losing a penis. More research is needed.

"After 1800 this changed fundamentally: the world population was around 1 billion in the year 1800 and is now, at around 8 billion, 8 times larger. Around 108 billion people have ever lived on our planet. This means that today's population size makes up 6.5% of the total number of people ever born." So like for every living person there are rounded 19 dead

by Anonymous 1 week ago

There are well over twice as many people alive now as there were even when I was born. It cannot be sustainable.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

The average person has never existed.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Hopefully

by Odd-Note-644 1 week ago

If we're including all the people who will ever live, yeah. But that's optimistically assuming that the human species will persist for many thousands or millions of years into the future. If humanity were about to go extinct, perhaps not.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

That's what it feels like most of the time

by AcrobaticPassion 1 week ago

God I wish that were me

by Anonymous 1 week ago

When calculating averages among people, it's customary to omit the dead people.

by Successful-Wind 1 week ago

Zombies: That's vitalist discrimination.

by teresa19 1 week ago

You should include those who haven't been born yet in your statistics.

by Then-Ad3582 1 week ago

Oach

by Anonymous 1 week ago

The truly average person has never been born.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I believe the correct statement is the average person is "mostly dead." Need to watch more Princess Bride

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I'm dead inside, don't know if that counts.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Is a dead human a person?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

wait what does this even mean

by QuickPriority7075 1 week ago

You can only take averages of quantitative states. Dead or alive is a qualitative state.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Dead = 0 Alive = 1 There, your qualitative state is now quantitative

by Anonymous 1 week ago

🤓 ahem No it's not. You can have 0.5 apples but not be 0.5 dead. It's meaningful to say I have twice as many apples as you, but I can't be twice as alive as you. In theory you also can't take the average of temperatures for the same reason

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Here's where rounding comes in. ~0.06 rounds to zero

by Anonymous 1 week ago

For every 1 living person there are 15 dead

by National_Sir 1 week ago

Your statement is so hard to understand. Define average person?

by Nearby_Doctor 1 week ago

Most people haven't been born yet

by Anonymous 1 week ago

The average person has one breast and one testicle.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

So the average person is a dead Chinese woman named Mohammed?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I am dead inside, does that count?

by AcrobaticPassion 1 week ago

My estimates are 30% npc(no inner voice) 65% dead(died from early trauma or giving up still 'funxtioning' soulless.) 5% awake/questing.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Most people have more than the average number of fingers

by Fair-Pressure5878 1 week ago

Dead people aren't people.

by anahi74 1 week ago

Not with that attitude!
