Accusing others of being cringe usually stems from insecurity. I remember a lot of this behavior and judgement back during school during the years where everyone goes though their identity crisis trying to figure out who they are, but it tapers off into your mid twenties

People have just thrown the word around so haphazardly and so often that it doesn't have the same meaning it once did. In order to be cringe you had to do something spectacularly embarrassing. Nowadays people say cringe any time something doesn't go 100% like it would in a movie.
