A growing human population isnt a problem. amirite?
by Vegetable-Story-34311 week ago
There is so much stuff that humans do that no other species has ever done. "No other species does this" ceased to be a valid argument against doing something a very very very very very very long time ago.

As much as humans are different there are certain principles that govern the universe and all life. These principles can be applied anywhere. In this case curbing your own population isnt a step in increasing your survival rate. Which is why I'm advocating for technologies to inhabit other planets to continue growing our species.

It's called longterminism and so far mankind hasn't really excelled at long term thinking, instead we use it as an excuse to delay current time solutions.

This isn't unpopular it's just incorrect It's not really a debate, there aren't infinite resources on the planet.

If you read what I typed, I mentioned focussing on developing technolgies to inhabit other planets for resources.
by Vegetable-Story-34311 week ago
But we really didn't. Have you noticed that space programs aren't priority since cold war race?

Or maybe it's not beneficial to anyone to publicly announce every advancement

What planets though? There aren't any inhabitable planets in our solar system so we would have to travel beyond that. And are you under the impression we aren't looking for suitable planets? Earth is a miracle planet, we have not found a single other inhabitable planet in the entire universe yet. So even if we DID somehow figure out infinite power and btw immortality because it would take literal LIGHTYEARS to get anywhere inhabitable, there aren't even places to go. It's like fishing in a pool and saying "we just aren't trying hard enough!" When we don't catch anything

Well, how about for example, terraforming uninhabitable planets. This is what I mean when I say you're talking only with respect to the limitations that are present currently. I just gave an example but there could be infinite different solution to inhabit other planets with technologies we havent seen yet or may never see in our lifetimes.

If this wasnt possible, then I would agree that the population needs to be curbed.
by Vegetable-Story-34311 week ago
Your unfeasible solution of "just go to a different planet" doesn't make you any less objectively wrong.
by Competitive-Nail1 week ago
Its only unfeasible because you think with the current limitations we have in mind. History constantly has proven people like you wrong. We live with so many inventions now that were unthinkable a few decades or a few centures ago.
by Vegetable-Story-34311 week ago
Yet we still live on earth, still have diseases, still need food and air, are experiencing unprecedented health issues to not even fully understanding how we've messed with our air and food… these miracle inventions; can you give an example? Do you mean airplanes? Mobile phones? They are abstractions of concepts so simple and old; but interstellar travel is literally unprecedented.

Bro the likelihood of humans ever leaving the planet is so miniscule. We've had space exploration shoved up our ass for a while now because it's the only thing left to get people excited about discovering. The actual practicality of supporting entire civilisations on another planet is either impossible or so far in the future it's not even worth thinking about for most people. It's funny you say "we need to start" when Elon musk has been banging on about living on mars for years at this point. Been pretty quiet about it recently though!
