It is ok to reject someone because of their looks (in dating or marriage) amirite?
by ConsistentSun34001 week ago
i'm not sure this is unpopular. i mean people may not love to admit it but it's true and it happens all the time.
by Putrid-Champion1 week ago
I think it is, you'd be amazed at how many times women called me a misogynist for simply stating that fact.
by Anonymous1 week ago
Depends on how you said it.
by LessRoad1 week ago
well that's completely different lol. personality is much more important than looks, especially if you're looking for a relationship. i could be with someone who wasn't attractive to me at first (based on looks only), but then i started liking them bc of their personality, but i cant say it's the same the other way around. if a guy looks good but has the personality of a brick, i will not be attracted to him, no matter how hot he is. also, the way you word something absolutely matters lol. people dont share one single brain cell so it's completely normal that one person interprets something you said completely differently than you do
by dariana131 week ago
how is that not the same? if someone rejects someone for their looks and doesnt care about personality, which this quote means I'm not spending my life with someone ugly or fat then that is exactly what it means. is it not?
by Anonymous1 week ago
Man, you've never seen an ugly guy in a relationship before? Plenty of unattractive guys have partners, so obviously someone is dating them??? Lmao
by Anonymous1 week ago
It might or might not be bodyshaming depending on how you go about the rejection. There's a difference between "not interested, sorry" and "get away from me, you fat pig".
by Anonymous1 week ago
If someone was good at first and you married or dated them, and they became unattractive and you left them then it's bad, if that's really a problem just talk about it because communication is key
by ConsistentSun34001 week ago
💯
by Anonymous1 week ago
People don't like rejection but it is perfectly fine for someone to reject another person for whatever reason. We should not make people feel obligated to give someone a chance because of societal pressure. I hope your opinion isn't actually unpopular.
by Anonymous1 week ago
Yeah people shouldn't marry or date someone because they don't want to hurt their feelings, love is not a joke
by ConsistentSun34001 week ago
I agree with the premise - rejecting someone for any reason is okay. I just don't agree it's a great idea to try and change yourself for someone who rejected you. If you gain the weight back are they going to leave you?
by Anonymous1 week ago
Everyone has their own preferences, I'm just speaking generally, I know it is not cool to change yourself for someone to accept you but sometimes you really gotta do it if you really love someone and that person loves you too but can't date you because of your looks
by ConsistentSun34001 week ago
…if they "can't date you because of your looks" then they don't love you. 🤦🏼♀️
by Anonymous1 week ago
Well if you love someone because of their personality and they look like a monster of course you would not date him
by ConsistentSun34001 week ago
How many guys you dated, speaking politely
by ConsistentSun34001 week ago
Wich one did you marry :D
by ConsistentSun34001 week ago
I hope you are happy! God bless you all<3
by ConsistentSun34001 week ago
Agreed. Physical attraction is important for some folk and that's fine. Say you are not interested respectfully and move on. The other person doesn't need to throw a fit.
by Anonymous1 week ago
If that person really wants and loves you he should work on himself to meet your preferences!
by ConsistentSun34001 week ago
…..I can't tell if you're joking or not. You shouldn't be required to change yourself physically to have someone love you back.
by Anonymous1 week ago
I know but if you want someone you should work hard to get him, it's like you want a job, but they rejects you because of something that you could fix, of course you would work to change it so they can accept you
by ConsistentSun34001 week ago
I'd say it's just... people have preferences. Some people like guys who are shaved and muscular, some people like guys who are chubby and have lots of body hair, some people like guys who dress feminine or any combination. Some people like women who are muscular and tall, some don't. Some like leg hair, some don't. What I'm saying is I agree that yeah, it's fine to turn someone down over stuff like that, but there isn't a universal "handsome/beautiful" body type or features.
by Western_Comment57141 week ago
Generally if someone doesn't like anyone based on their looks (doesn't meet their preferences as you said) it is totally ok to reject them, if they really wants you they should work for it and improve their selves to gain your love and to meet your preferences [in looks]
by ConsistentSun34001 week ago
That's very popular opinion.

People in real life have real lives, and this is just common sense. But reading a lot of manga and manhwa, I totally see how one can start thinking it's uncommon. It's rare to see a story that has real people and real scenarios in them these days. Hell, DBZ had more real relationships that 90% of manga today.

I think it's okay in dating but in marriage? Most looks don't change overnight. And if either partner was unable to intervene before it became serious enough for rejection then there were other problems in the relationship. Like if your partner is gaining weight but you two can't have a conversation about healthy habits as a MARRIED couple, then that marriage is already over. Also, I'm tired of "looks" being relegated to just "fat" or "ugly." People get disfigured and they lose limbs. With aging, half of your face could just give out. "Looks" include things you can't change or avoid. If you're married, then you should have made that decision to stand by them or at least try when things get ugly. You can't leave your wife & the mother of your kids because they got cancer, lost weight, and went bald. You shouldn't leave your husband because they lost a limb in an accident. Idk, marriage is a huge commitment and if looks are enough to break it...don't get married. Not without some strong prenups or a plan to never share assets
by Neat_Line1 week ago
Well, I don't know actually.. if you married someone and they had an accident that they went horrible so bad, would you stay with them? I honestly would because I love them and I married them because I love them no matter what
by ConsistentSun34001 week ago
It's totally fine to have preferences. But what is not fine is expecting people to strictly abide by whatever standards you have set for themselves.
by Anonymous1 week ago
Yes 👍
by ConsistentSun34001 week ago
Even mild preferences are things we all have. Once you realize that you'll end up happier. Lol
by Anonymous1 week ago
Lol I didn't even think anything was bad at all?
by Anonymous1 week ago
How is this unpopular? I've never heard anyone say you should date people you are not physically attracted to just because they are a "good" or "nice" person.
by Anonymous1 week ago
Yeah I agree
by ConsistentSun34001 week ago
I would stay with them because I love them, but I would advise them
by ConsistentSun34001 week ago
Physical attraction is the first thing that people are attracted to and some people like fat people or people that you would consider ugly. A good personality does make a person more attractive.
by Anonymous1 week ago
Well what if someone is so ugly that he looks like a monster and has the best personality? Let's be real of course no one will date him because of his personality
by ConsistentSun34001 week ago
Look, it is ok to reject someone based on their looks in dating or marriage for the first time but if they were good first and you married them and they became unattractive and you leave them for that then it's really bad
by ConsistentSun34001 week ago
I have rejected people because of their looks, their faith or lack of, their politics, their family.. It's like you are free to date whomever you choose. Amazing.
by Anonymous1 week ago
Of course you are free, you have the right to do whatever you want as long as it dosen't hurt anyone in a serious way!
by ConsistentSun34001 week ago
OP, you're a teenager, right? This is an obscenely popular opinion. "Well, I enjoy her personality but find her extremely unattractive. Guess I might as well marry her." This just isn't a situation anyone disagrees with.
by Anonymous1 week ago
You're allowed to reject anyone for literally any reason. You have no obligation to date anyone.
by Anonymous1 week ago
Of course
by ConsistentSun34001 week ago
This isn't even close to an unpopular opinion. This is literally how the dating works in all cultures.
by MuffinVivid1 week ago
It's ok to reject anyone by any reason. But if you get rejected, I don't think it's necessary for you to fix a problem unless you want to. Different people have different standards you can't fit everyone's taste.
by Anonymous1 week ago
If you got rejected find the reason of your rejection and work hard to fix the cause of that rejection Or avoid shallow assholes next time. It's your right after all. My point here isn't that you're bad, I'm using hyberbole. My point is, if the core defense is it's my right that's a really weak defense. Nobody is arguing that you aren't allowed to do it; they are arguing that you shouldn't. and if we just throw it's my right at each other, nobody's going to get anywhere.
by Significant-Hope1 week ago
Changing yourself to meet someone's else's standard isn't a good idea. I have to assume that you're pretty young to not be able to tell the difference between being attracted to someone and falling in love with someone.
by Mission_Rooster1 week ago
I agree and I don't know if this is actually an unpopular opinion tbh, maybe it is where you are from Attraction is part of dating / marriage , that's just a fact
by Anonymous1 week ago
Ok? What do you mean by "revenges on her"? That doesn't make sense to me?
by Anonymous1 week ago
So...fat people shouldn't go to the gym? What are you saying exactly?
by Anonymous1 week ago
It's not unpopular, but most people just won't admit it when asked to try to make themselves seem like a good person
by Anonymous1 week ago
Well yeah. One's looks are heavily influenced by one's values, ambition, and discipline. Also a strong indicator of what hobbies you can enjoy and how healthy you will be throughout life.
by bkrajcik1 week ago
I mean... you just described the finale phase of every man; Get engaged with a girl; gain weight because of mental issues, break up with them/or they with you, then reconstruct yourself by avoiding all females and going through the phase of wanting to be as strong as possible.
by Anonymous1 week ago
Well yeah generally it is ok to reject someone because of something that you don't like because relationships are not a joke
by ConsistentSun34001 week ago
Wait how is this unpopular. Everyone prefers attractive people when dating, or most of everyone at least.
by deloresmclaughl1 week ago
No. You have to love ugly people OR ELSE. Someone asked you out and they're not beautiful? Too bad, you're getting married.
by Jensen531 week ago
Is this satire or you're talking seriously 😂
by ConsistentSun34001 week ago
It was sarcastic. I was trying to make the point that almost no one in the entire world would expect you to date someone you found ugly. This opinion isn't even popular, it's like the ONLY opinion. Anyone who says you have to date ugly people is ugly lmao.
