Flip phones were and still are better than smartphones, amirite?
by Anonymous1 week ago
Having a gps and convenient media player outweighs the negatives for me
by Anonymous1 week ago
As much as I wanna hate on smart phones, this is the argument I cannot get over. GPS/Google maps and my entire music library on one device has improved my quality of life. An iPod classic and a Garmin cannot compare.
by Automatic_Reveal1 week ago
Of course. Anyone who pretends otherwise are just dumb
by Anonymous1 week ago
I liked my iPod Classic way better than any streaming service. No issues with songs or albums suddenly not being available for no apparent reason, and bigger storage capacity.
by Anonymous1 week ago
I drive a 2013 car with an iPod connection built into the glove box. My iPod classic lives in there permanently. And it's pretty great. I can listen to streaming but albums I want to listen to but they aren't on streaming I just switch to my classic.
by merlweimann1 week ago
If it's not on streaming I just turn it into an MP3… but that's like very rare I need to do it these days
by Anonymous1 week ago
And you can't load songs into your phone i stead of using streaming services because....??
by Aromatic_Ad56231 week ago
I can, but increased storage capacity on phones is way more expensive. The solution would of course be to have interchangeable SD cards, which I did and which worked perfectly. But so many phone manufacturers are going away from this as a standard option, preferring instead to have a fixed storage, thinking that most people just stream the music anyway.
by Anonymous1 week ago
Tbf you could also just download the mp3s on your phone and have the same experience
by Anonymous1 week ago
Or flacs
by SevereShock50751 week ago
Your iPod classic has a bigger storage capacity than your phone?
by kadinharris1 week ago
Yes, but who wants to carry around several devices like that?
by Anonymous1 week ago
Sure and spend thousands of dollars to buy those.
by Anonymous1 week ago
The thing is, the storage argument is invalid for a while. You also don't have to turn on your phone to skip a song, you can just do the gesture on the turned off screen in your pocket. Battery, I get the complaint. And the rest is just personal preference.

Yeah I travel very frequently and Google map and other navigation apps are literally a life saver, I would be getting scammed or ripped off left and right without them
by Anonymous1 week ago
Demand for so-called dumbphones is actually on the rise, as more and more people realize how toxic smartphones can be.
by ogrady1 week ago
just be so weird that the fbi man cant overcome the cringe enough to spy on you
by slindgren1 week ago
The technology isn't to blame, it's how people use it.
by Alarmed_Caregiver_771 week ago
Exactly. It's not too hard to turn your smartphone into a dumb phone with a few extras you need (e.g. maps, music).
by Anonymous1 week ago
I completely agree. I was here two years back but know of other forums. This is the most helpful one and that says something.
by Billkub1 week ago
That's not the point. OP is saying smartphones are bad. OP is using a smartphone.
by Anonymous1 week ago
I didn't know that.
by Billkub1 week ago
Very likely they are on computer
by Anonymous1 week ago
"technology has too much control over us" "and yet you're using technology!" yeah, obviously? OP literally just finished saying it controls our lives too much. them using a smartphone to say that proves their point, not the contrary
by Raegan151 week ago
Imagine having absolutely no self control and blaming phones for it, then proceeds to shame responsible people for having a useful tool.
by Anonymous1 week ago
To be fair most of media on phones are made to be highly addictive. Especially when you start using them when your younger. It's pretty difficult to break an addiction.
by eduardo411 week ago
Right- but you can recognize it and set boundaries
by Bulky-Barracuda1 week ago
Just don't install it
by Schoenmaxine1 week ago
After seeing gen alpha and the ipad kids, my kids will get their first phone in high school or last year of middle school.
by Anonymous1 week ago
Yeah same if I have kids I don't want them on any of that it's so terrible for development. I'm hoping in the future it's more common for parents to realize this huge problem and do the same for there kids
by eduardo411 week ago
What an ignorant uneducated ass opinion. 🤫
by Fluffy_Newt_50821 week ago
Imagine if they made phones regulated for kids. They trust too many people and throw money at items you can get from using a phone. A flip phone for some public services and buildings would be something. Like in classrooms and maybe other places. Social media is important but dangerous at the same time
by Billkub1 week ago
For me the benefits of a smartphone out weigh the cons
by Anonymous1 week ago
My smart phone is a flip phone.
by Anonymous1 week ago
My smartphone is a flip phone. Checkmate.
by Ok_Independent90421 week ago
For me it's hard disagree. I do so much on my phone that a flip phone can't for me it's that simple
by rodericklakin1 week ago
No, I think slider phones were the best. I had Sony Ericson 910i
by Anonymous1 week ago
Miss my full keyboard phone every day. I used to be able to text without looking and now i constantly have to correct because the digital keyboard sucks. Also I loved the noise my slide phone made.
by Anonymous1 week ago
The price of flip phones is actually increasing. You used to be able to get one for about $20 You would think they would be practically free by now
by Queasy_Association1 week ago
I agree. It's astonishing how dependent we are for literally anything. GPS? Sure. Google? Sure. AI? Sure. It's making us dumb. GPS, for example. I'm sure it's good for many places, but I live in a relatively small city and haven't been driving for long. Instead of knowing roada and where they go or even experimenting, I use Google Maps all the time, even for the simplest routes just to double check. Then there's obviously Social Media. Don't need to explain. I hate my phone but I can't live without it.
by ltowne1 week ago
I still favor carrier pigeons.
by stevie021 week ago
My smartphone is rarely used as a phone or messenger.
by Anonymous1 week ago
The Nokia N900 was the best phone I ever had and it was a day of immense sadness when it died. It was really a computer in your pocket, more than any other smartphone I've ever come across.
by Anonymous1 week ago
I could never learn how to type on them
by Anonymous1 week ago
I miss my flip phone, for real. I miss not being constantly connected to everything (even while admitting to a large extent it's my choice to stay on social media as much as I do).
by tmorissette1 week ago
I still use a flip phone to this day. Never felt the need to switch over. I just use a computer to access the internet.
by Anonymous1 week ago
I don't want a phone I want a computer that fits in my pocket. The fact that I can ignore texts from it is just a bonus.
by abbottshanelle1 week ago
I have a smartphone. I don't use it for anything other than MP3 player. Or as a last resort YT machine if I have nowhere else to watch it. Phones are as useful as we make them to be. If you let it dominate your life, it will. I don't so that's why I don't understand this rhetoric.
by schimmelmelyssa1 week ago
do you mean stuff like the zflip?, those are still smart phones
by brent391 week ago
This has little to do with the physical properties of phones, obvious nostalgia.
by Old-Particular1 week ago
Nah, you just need to limit how you use your phone if it's a problem. Flip phones are objectively worse than smartphones
by Schoenmaxine1 week ago
I just liked the flip because it was compact in my pocket. I'm retired and if I'm out, I'm usually with my wife - so I'd borrow her Note if I needed to look up something. But my son got an Apple SE and I liked the size of it, so I switched to that and I love it.
by Educational-You1 week ago
This is objectively untrue
by Hot_Skin_62861 week ago
The irony is they made the technology then gave it to their children to pacify them, which in turn is destroying everything they wanted from their children. Then they blame everyone else.
by fridamuller1 week ago
I literally have everything I need at the palm of my hand on this phone. A flip phone is only good for hanging up calls aggressively and being able to fit nicely in my purse.

Your phone only has as much control of you as you let it. This isn't an opinion, it's unfactual.
by nienowsarah1 week ago
Objectively Smartphones are better than Fliphones because you can do pretty much anything on a Smartphone.
by Anonymous1 week ago
Other than maps and music, I would go back to flip phones.
by Effective_Rub1 week ago
The flip phone I have does let you play music and movies but you have to put the files yourself.
by Anonymous1 week ago
Yes, this!
